Spinning Workshops - what do we do?

The programme for spinning workshops depends a little on the requirements of the participants. For beginners there is an introduction to spinning on a wheel and/or drop spindle together with preparation of the fleece (washing, carding, etc). Also learning about the different fleece qualities of various breeds of sheep.

For more experienced spinners there is the opportunity to try other fibres such as alpaca, silk, linen or camel or to learn new skills such as different ways of plying.   Dyeing or felting workshops can be tried during the week including needle felting.

For those staying for a longer course, workshops are informal and flexible. If a particular request is made either before or during your visit we do our best to accommodate it.

We have a variety of reference books which are available for guests to consult on spinning, spinning wheels, looms, techniques, etc.
